Longstone School is a co-educational Controlled School catering for pupils with a wide range of special educational needs.
An additional standalone single-storey, low carbon in-operation expansion project that delivered a Building Control-compliant specialist classroom block, with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of B, and an air tightness test less than 3m³/hr/m².
Mac Zero constructs 270m² modular double classroom block for Longstone School

Longstone School in Dundonald is benefiting from an additional 270sqm modular double classroom block. The new modular classroom will help the school to meet the growing needs of pupils and staff.
The building consists of two classrooms, two sensory rooms, two hygiene rooms, toilets and stores. Both classrooms have direct access to individual covered soft play areas which have standalone canopy structures overhead. The play areas are securely fenced and access from the classrooms is Access Controlled.
Delivering a sustainable building for the future, this highly insulated and airtight modular building will contribute to efficiencies within the school’s future running costs.
The 270sqm classroom block was manufactured offsite, with the project taking just 3 months from start to completion.
M+E PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS
Heating - Plumbing, ventilation and installation of a gas heating system. Room controls have been installed with ease of use in mind.
Plumbing - Mains pressure cold water is provided to all cold-water outlets throughout the building with non-concussive taps to all wash hand basins within the toilet areas. Hot water is provided from hot water storage cylinder heated by the gas boiler.
Extract Ventilation - In-line extract fans are controlled by presence detectors.
Efficient LED light fittings throughout, with programmable PIR presence detection sensors.
Emergency Call System - Central control panel with emergency call buttons located throughout the building.
